If you’ve been shopping for e-liquids, you will have come across the term vegetable glycerine (VG) at some point.
To put it simply, VG content in e-liquids is used to thicken the consistency of the liquid – the thicker the consistency, the bigger the vapour clouds.

What role does VG play in e-liquids?
The VG content in your e-liquids are responsible for two primary functions – adding a slight sweetness in the liquid to achieve a ‘smooth hit’ and facilitating the majority of vapour production.
A liquid with a higher concentration of VG will help you achieve a smoother throat hit and give off thicker vapours.
Things you should consider when choosing your VG content
Every vaper is different, and the things you want from your experience will be totally different to the next person – and the VG ratio in your liquid could be the key to everything.
- Stronger flavour and throat hit
If you’re after an e-liquid that’s bursting with flavour, it’s best to go for an even VG:PG (Propylene Glycol) ratio, 50:50 for example.
- Smoothness
The good news is, if you’re looking for a smoother feeling when vaping, choosing an e-liquid with a higher VG ratio will help you achieve this.
- Discreetness
When vaping in public, the best way to keep it discreet (if this is something you’re worried about) is by using an e-liquid with a lower VG content.
Seeing as the VG content in your liquid is responsible for the amount of vapour produced, lower VG e-juices are ideal for low-key cloud chasers.
- Vapour production
If you’re a cloud chaser and like to exhale big, thick clouds of vapour, a high VG e-liquid is perfect for you.
It’s important to keep in mind that high VG:PG ratios that help you achieve this kind of vapour production, like 80:20 or 70:30, aren’t suitable for all e-cigarette models and can clog up your wick or coil – damaging your device.
